Summer Hideouts: Snowdays Shavery

I’m finally done with finals! With a job for the summer, I’ll be staying right here in NYC. Although settling down in bed with my dear friend Netflix sounds really good right now, I’m as ready to explore the city as ever. Today I just wanted to share with you one of my favorite desserts – shaved ice! And Snowdays is the perfect place for a nice, cool afternoon for those with a sweet tooth.

Located in East Village, this place seriously quenched my thirst for some good “bingsoo”. During my first visit, I tried Got Seoul, which seems to be a crowd favorite (as well as a mine). I think it was green tea and sesame saved ice topped with mochi, red bean, and mango – all drizzled with condensed milk! I seriously love the combination of mochi and red bean. It brings back memories of the hot summer days I used to enjoy in Seoul.

The second item I tried was called Taste of Taiwan, which comes with mochi and grass jelly. I love putting grass jelly in my milk tea (jelly over tapioca, oh yeah.), so it was pretty cool to experience it with some brain-freezing shaved ice this time.

Snowdays offers a variety of sizes as well, and I’m not ashamed to say that I could probably finish the large size by myself. Another cool touch is the spoons, which change color with different temperatures.

I have a feeling I’ll be dropping by often this summer!
